Frequently Asked Questions

What do we wear?

Playing singlets are included in the cost of registration. These will be reversible, with a predominantly blue side and a predominantly white side. The draw will indicate which colour your team should be showing week to week.

Players are to wear their preferred shorts or bike pants – whatever is comfortable.

Touch or other grass sports shoes with plastic or rubber mouldings are recommended.

When do registrations close?

The scheduled close date for registrations is SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 3, but please note the following:

  1. In previous seasons when demand has been high, we have been forced to close off registrations earlier than expected for some divisions.
  2. Lead times are needed for ordering singlets (Minimum 4 weeks). Leaving registration too late may mean your singlet is not available for the first few rounds.

What time are games played?

Time slots will be finalised once we have final team numbers. The following provides an indication of the likely timeslots.

Divisions
Division Name Day Times
U8’s Monday 5:00-6:00
U10’s Monday 5:00-6:00
U12 Girls Monday 6:00-7:00
U12 Boys Tuesday 5:00-7:30
U14’s Tuesday 6:30-8:30
Youth Wednesday 5:30-6:30

What division should I register into?

Where there is capacity for multiple divisions, please consider the following:

  • Representative players and those with a competitive focus are encouraged to enter into Div 1.
  • Young athletes keen to develop their touch skills might like to consider Div 2.
  • We have introduced a non-competitive division to our 12boys competition for those new to touch and looking to develop skills (& friendships) without scoreboard focus.

How many players per team? NEW REQUIREMENT FOR 2023

For Under 8’s and Under 10’s, there are 5 players on a field at a time (playing on a half size field).  All other divisions are 6 a side.

ALL divisions require a minimum of 8 registered players to commence competition.

Teams with <8 registered players at registration close date (September 3) will be removed from the competition. If you cannot meet this minimum requirement please email the club (info@hillshornetstouch.com) for assistance with finding players.

The number of subs is always a bit of a balancing act. Too many subs can mean players don’t get long enough on the field, too few and players get too tired and lose enjoyment. Aiming for 3-4 subs per game is usually a good rule of thumb.

Is it OK to play up an age division?

Yes.  Where friends or siblings want to play together, they can play up in an older age division. It is important to be aware that skill levels can be significantly different between age divisions. Parents will need to use their own judgement on the skills and confidence of the player wanting to play up an age division.

My friend(s) and I don't have a team but want to play together. Can you ensure we end up in the same team?

Absolutely.  Once registered, send an email to info@hillshornetstouch.com with their names requesting same team placement.

If 4 or more players wanting to play together, we recommend registering a team and then contacting the club to request additional players be added.

I want to register a team, but I'm a few players short. Can you help?

Absolutely.  Send an email to info@hillshornetstouch.com with your team name once registered and the number of additional players you would like.  We will allocate players from our individual player registration pool.

Do you have mixed divisions for juniors?

No.  But this is something we are considering for the future. In the mean time you can enter a mixed team into the equivalent age boys division. This has been done by teams in previous seasons.

I've never played touch football before, can you cater for beginners?

Absolutely.  At Hills Hornets Touch we welcome everybody. Register yourself, and we will find you a team that can accommodate your experience and skill level. In the earlier weeks of competition, we have our representative and elite level coaches out at the fields and available to teams to learn more about the game.
You can also check out our Basics of touch page for an introduction on how the game is played. There are also some highlight videos you can watch on Hornets TV.
