Hills Hornets Touch Football enters its 41st year with a refreshed and dynamic Executive Team, endorsed at the 2025 Annual General Meeting. The new leadership group blends deep experience, proven achievement, and a shared commitment to strengthening the club’s pathways, culture, and community.
In a significant milestone for the Hornets, three of the four executive positions are now held by women — a reflection of the club’s long‑standing belief that leadership grows from contribution, capability, and community impact.
President – Katrina McIlwraith
Katrina steps into the role of President with an exceptional record of service and achievement. A dual Administrator of the Year (NSW Touch and Sydney Scorpions) and Rod Wise Volunteer of the Year recipient, she has shaped the club’s modern era through her leadership, organisation, and vision.
Her playing career is equally distinguished: multiple Sydney Scorpions and NSW representations, and selection in the NSW Golden Jubilee Women’s Seniors Team in 2022 — recognising the best senior women’s players of the past 50 years.

“This club has given me so much over the years — as a player, a volunteer, and a member of this community. I’m honoured to lead the Hornets into their next chapter, and I’m committed to ensuring our pathways, people, and culture continue to thrive.”

Vice President – Lucinda Wehrle
Lucinda’s appointment as Vice President acknowledges her transformative leadership of the Hills Hornets Referee Development Program. Under her guidance, the club has become one of NSW’s strongest referee pathways, producing Level 1–6 referees, national appointments, and a thriving junior cohort.
Her work has reshaped the culture of officiating at the club — supportive, structured, and aspirational.

“Seeing our referees grow — especially the juniors — has been one of the most rewarding parts of my involvement. I’m excited to help shape the broader direction of the club and continue building an environment where everyone feels supported to succeed.”

Secretary – Christine Matta
Christine brings decades of involvement across playing, coaching, officiating, and community leadership. As coordinator of the local park competition, she has overseen significant growth in participation while maintaining the welcoming, family‑centred environment that defines the Hornets.
She has represented Sydney Scorpions as a player and is a proud parent of three representative players — including her eldest son Ed, who was named Club Person of the Year in 2025.

“Hills Hornets has always felt like home. I’m proud to give back to a club that has supported my family for so many years, and I’m looking forward to helping strengthen the connections that make this community so special.”

Treasurer – Craig Eggington
Craig continues in the role of Treasurer, providing the stability and governance oversight that has underpinned the club’s success since its relaunch in 2008. His financial stewardship has ensured the Hornets remained viable through periods of rapid growth and increasing operational complexity.
A long‑time representative player and coach, Craig brings a rare combination of financial expertise and on‑field experience.

“It’s been a privilege to help guide the club through its rebuild and growth. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’m committed to ensuring the Hornets remain strong, sustainable, and ready for the future.”

A Leadership Team for the Next Era
Together, this Executive Team represents the best of Hills Hornets Touch Football: experience, service, community, and ambition.
The elevation of three women into senior leadership roles reflects the club’s commitment to empowering contributors who have earned their place through action and impact. It also signals a future where diverse voices and perspectives shape the direction of the club.
With Katrina, Lucinda, Christine, and Craig at the helm, the Hornets are exceptionally well‑positioned for the next phase of growth — strengthening pathways, deepening community engagement, and continuing the proud legacy built over 40 years.
