Friday night was a historic night for the Hills Hornets.  Five Hornets teams have qualified for NSW Touch Vawdon Cup Grand Finals;  Men’s Division 1, Women’s Division 1, Men’s Division 3, Women’s Division 3 and our all-conquering Inclusive Premier League team.  All will compete in their respective Grand Finals on Saturday 28^th October

It has been Hills Hornets most successful Vawdon Cup season, with the Hornets a realistic chance of being crowned Vawdon Cup Club Champions.  Not bad for the fledging club from the Hills with only 3 playing fields.

Each team made a statement when winning their preliminary finals.  The Men’s Division 1 team had to overcome Minor Premier Wests to win their Grand Final spot.  At full-time the scores were level.  But one minute of drop off was all it took for the Hornets boys to score the winning try (watch below) which saw the minor premiers disappear out the backdoor, and the Hornets boys erupt in celebration.

The Women’s Division 1 team completely dominated their opponents from Penrith, winning the game 4-0.  A first half arm wrestle saw a 0-0 score at half time, but the Hornets first use of the ball in the second half broke the deadlock and the tries began to flow.

The Women’s Division 3 team slayed the Dragons 5-0, while the Men’s Division 3 team destroyed the UNSW bullets 7-4.

The Hornets Inclusion Premier League team have left all other teams in their wake, going through their season undefeated.

Hills Hornets President Brad Mitchell was ecstatic.

“What we are experiencing now is the result of years of work” Mitchell said.

“We have worked hard for a long time to get things right off the playing field, and we are starting to see the dividends paid on the field.”

“But we are not getting ahead of ourselves, we still have 5 Grand Finals to win”

The Hornets would love to see as many of their club members as possible get down to Waterworth Park at Tempe on Grand Final day to support the mighty Hornets teams.
