Referees Code of Ethics

These guidelines are meant to reflect the expectations and attitudes required by both TFA and the TFA Referees Panel.

Touch Football Australia and our National referee body have an image to uphold. At National Championship level, Touch Football Australia expect our team of referees to look and act in a professional manner both on and off field, whether at the referees' tent, moving to the fields, watching fellow referees, at the motel, or attending any function.

Referees are also asked to show self control with alcohol on the evenings preceding the championships. It is obvious the following morning which referees have "over indulged" as their on field performance not only lets the players down, but themselves.

* A TFA Referee is a person who would be considered to demonstrate outstanding ability to referee and be a good ambassador for the sport of Touch.

* A referee must not engage in any verbal or physical confrontation with any referee, coach, selector, player, official or organiser.

* A referee must not use crude or abusive language, or engage in any conduct that would be deemed as detrimental to the image of the game of Touch.

* A referee must at all times act, dress and behave in a manner befitting the expectations of the TFA and the TFA Referees.

* A referee shall not gamble on the result of any game under the jurisdiction of the TFA.

* A referee should always endeavour to present him/herself as a team orientated person.

* A referee should be seen to be fully supportive of fellow referees, both on and off field.

* Where TFA or the TFA Director of Referees receives a report of any alleged breach of this Code of Ethics, the referee, if found guilty of that breach after due inquiry by the National Referees Panel, may be disqualified or suspended from attending any further National tournaments.
