Hills Hornet takes title in Country Champs

By Hornet News on 28.05.2008

Hills Hornet member Grant Davis took part in the recent Country Champsionships held in Dubbo over the weekend with the Central Coast Dolphins Mens Opens team.

The Central Coast Dolphins have continued their fantastic run at the Country Championships with their fifth title in six years in the Men's Open division with their own version of the "Great Escape" against the Wallsend Wolves.

The Wolves with the taste of revenge on their lips from last years narrow defeat to the Dolphins started the game in the best possible way and impressed many of the spectators with the speed and play book to jump out to a four touchdown lead after only ten minutes of play.

In the matter of a few sets of six the two Coast legends maneuvered their team around the park and were hunting down their impressive nemesis with 3 consecutive touchdowns.

With the clock working its way toward a Wallsend victory an unlikely hero emerged out of Dolphins weary sub box in John "JD" Dalton with a darting run out of acting half and leveling the scores to send the game towards drop off.

Wallsend begun the drop off with a renewed confidence which was evident in the way they constantly stretched the Dolphin defense with only a diving Dean Wilbow halting a certain Wolves victory.

That single touch seemed to inspire the Dolphins who managed to progress to the tournament decider with ten weary players and it was the man with the big left foot and bullet like passing to Dylan Hennessey worked the Wallsend defense to lay on the final touchdown to ensure a victory that will be savored for many years to come.

Nice Work Grant!
