Hornets fall just short

In the Hornets first grand finals appearance for 5 years, all hopes were flying with the Mixed Hills 1 team that had Menai standing in their way.

After convincing wins in the lead up to this game the confidence in the club was high. Menai, well known for their strength in this division were out to run the Hills team into the ground and shot to a 4 - 2 lead at half time.

The second half started much better for the Hornets as they posted 2 quick tries to get within reach of Menai. The highlight was a magical long ball into the wind from Ev that hit the winger in full stride in the corner.

Unfortunately the Menai team hit back towards the end of the half and eventually ran away with the title 8-4. It was the Mixed teams first experience at grand final touch and the experience should help them prepare for a solid assault at State Cup.

Congratualtions for making it this far.

Many thanks to everyone from all teams that competed in Vawdon Cup for 2009. The skill, the teamwork and club as a whole is heading in the right direction. It was also the first time in many years that Hills entered three teams into the event and with four pencilled in for State Cup this year the future for the Hornets looks bright.
