Hills Hornets fall to Blacktown in Minor Final

Vawdon Cup season 2006 began with an excellent start knocking off a suprised Easts team who expected to easily account for their much older opposition but the Hornets stood strong in defence and started Vawdon 06 with a 3-2 victory.

Hills then played 2 of the more fancied teams in rounds 2 and 4 but went down but not without a fight. Hills then bounced back into victory lane with wins over Parra 1 & Parra 2 to stay in touch with the top 4 and place them well for a run towards the finals.

In the final round of the tournament Hills were pitted against Wests who needed to win to scrape into the finals as they stacked their team with quality players to give the Hornets a touch up 12-5.

The minor semi saw Mays Hill and the Hornets battle it out for a spot in the Minor Final at Bankstown number 4. In a high scoring affair the Hornets reversed the scoreline from the rounds to take the victory 8-7.

The Minor Final was held at Tempe field 4 on a chilly October night as the Hornets took on a youthful Blacktown Broncos outfit. The Hornets provided stiff oposition throughout the final but eventually went down 7-4. The Broncos proved too quick for the Hornets team who were not disgraced to end a successful campaign as they look forward to attacking the upcoming State Cup.
