Hills Hornets go down to Peninsula in quarters

The 2007 State Cup was again a torrid affair for Hills Hornets as the squad was reduced to 10 before the team even arrived at the grounds as a soccer injury forces Sprouley to wear the coaches hat.

The managers meeting on the Thursday evening greets the hornets with an outside tent location that doesn't win too many fans with NSWTA.

Game day arrives and a premier field location starts the Hills Hornets campaign with a victory over a depleted Gunnedah team who were more interested in golf than touch. After a slow start Hills rolls over the top to win 5-2.

Game two with Liverpool in our sites who traditionally prove a boogey team for Hills. In a game that was often spiteful and contained questionable refereeing decisions the Hornets were again left to lick their wounds going down 4-6.

Saturday morning arives with Doyalson in an 8am kick off. The cloud quickly burnt off and a stinker was on the way. The hornets unleashed some classic touch to down the Doyalson team 7-1.

After receiving a midday bye the Hornets hit the beach for a speedo session in what can only be described as artic water conditions.

With the afternoon heat still hanging around Hills took on Wallsend who always provide stiff opposition on an outside field. The game was an arm wrestle with Wallsend finally putting the Hornets to bed and winning 5-3.

Having qualified for a quarter final spot the Hornets locked horns with Peninsula on the old field one. After dominating early and looking at a boilover half way through the contest the Hills legs finally ran out of steam as the heavy toll of 10 players finally took over as Penisula progressed 5-2.
