2006 State Cup Campaign began at the trusted Le George Hotel also known as the spirtual home of the Hills Hornets located on the sunny banks of some creek.

The first game of the tournament was against Doyalson on field 8 in front of the referees tent as the Hornets disposed of a lacklustre Doyalson outfit 9-0. The Hornets ran in try after try as confidence soared.

As usual the Wolves came out to play in the second round of the tournament. With plenty of numbers to select from it was always going to be a struggle against Wallsend as they play a flowing game that stretches the limit of any team. The outcome was predicted as they ran away with a 8-2 victory as they push for a grand final berth later in the campaign.

Saturday morning pitted the Lightening against the Hornets as the history of grudge matches continued between the teams. As a team the Hornets should win and win convincingly but seem to have trouble putting them away going down 2-0 in a disappointing outcome.

If ever the Hornets were going to find a yardstick this was it. A Manly team who ooze quality players took the field against a determine Hills team who gave as good as they got but were unable to keep the gates closed as the Manly team emerged 5-1 victors.

The Hornets again made the Sunday game with a quarter final clash against an experienced Wests team hungry to chew deeper into the finals series. The underdogs came out firing and found themselved leading well into the game to the surprise of the crowd and referees who tried to even the scores up. In the end the Wests outfit came out on top but not without a scare 3-1.
