2008 State Cup Wrap

By Hornet News on 08.12.2008

The 2008 NSW State Cup has been run and won.

The Mixed Opens team were one of 20 odd teams from around the state to contest the mixed division this year. Out of the 6 games the mixed were able to record 2 wins but not enough to scrape through in a tough division such as mixed opens.

The Mens 30s had arguably the best year in recent history without cracking a quarter finals berth. Without question the Hornets were pooled in the hardest side of the draw and were the unlucky ones to miss out on Sunday on for and against. 3 out of the 4 semi final teams and the 2 grand final final teams all came for the Hornets pool.

The Hornets Awards BBQ was introduced this year with the introduction of awards for recognition from performance both on and off the field in what hopes to be an annual occurance.

Congratulations to the following people;

The Leading Tryscorer for the Hornets with 17 tries this year went to Kylie Hore with 8 tries in Vawdon Cup and 9 in the State Cup campaign.

The referees Acknowledgement award went to Matt Bocock who has represented Hills Hornets at Vawdon Cup and State Cup over the past 3 years and been a regular in the local park competition.

The Hornets Medal for Players Player for the club went to Mick Sproule who has been a club icon and represented the Hornets for over 10 years and still matching it with the best on offer in the Mens 30s division.
