Hornets make World Cup 2011 squad

Congratualtions to Wayne McKenzie and Brad Mitchell who have been selected in the 2011 Mens 35s and Mens 30s World Cup squads respectively.

The 2011 World Cup is being held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 22nd - 26th June 2011. The event will be the largest Touch World Cup in the history of the sport, in terms of attendance, with 28 countries and over 100 teams signed up already.

The two will be attending a training camp on the 12-13th February with final selections to be held at the 2011 NTL's in Port Macquarie.

Hills Hornets would like to wish both the best of luck.

Mens State Cup results

Mens Open B team 1 had a very limited preparation with the whole team only coming together on roughly 2 occasions in the lead up to Port. However this team still competed with the best and came away with 1 win, 2 draws and 3 losses to miss out on the round of 16 but a single point. This was a great achievement and something that can be looked at for next year.

The Mens Open B team 2 progressed to the round of 16 with 3 wins and 3 losses but run into a hot Bankstown Jets team. With a full team and a solid preparation the results were on the board for the #2 team as they played some exciting footy. Pleasing to see that there are plenty of young kids in these 2 teams that will compete in the Junior State Cup in February 2011.

The old boys, Mens 30s were the surprise packet of the Mens teams as they played some of the best touch of the weekend to progress to the semi finals. A big pat on the back to the men in the middle who had an average age of 43 but competed and outplayed many players up to 13 years their junior.

Doc on the way to the World Cup

Bruce Ager aka Doc has been appointed the head coach of the Mens 40s Australian team to compete at the World Cup in Scotland 2011. Doc has been a regular on the coaching panel over the past few years and has earned his position with convincing wins over QLD and NZ.

We wish him all the best in the lead up to June.

Another Hornet joins the Aussie Nest

Congratulations to Bevan De Vries who has been selected to represent Australia in the upcoming Youth Trans Tasman against the Kiwi's in Canberra from Friday, 21 January until Sunday, 23 January 2011.

This is the biggest honour for any aspiring touch players as he faces off against a tough New Zealand outfit.

Bev played Vawdon Cup with Hills in the Mens Open division this year and he will be looking to continue his good form in the national colours and bring back some added experience to the Hornets nest.

Congratulations again to Bev as he takes this next step on the representative stage.
